Ney & Partners wins two Steel Awards BELUX 2024, Brussels (BE)
-
Ney & Partners won two Steel Awards, one for the Brunfaut Tower Rehabilitation and one for the Namur Bus Station. By preserving the foundations and structure of Brunfaut Tower, the jury was impressed by how the existing surface area of the social housing tower was enhanced : “By using a lightweight and intelligently designed steel structure and replacing the concrete floors with timber, a significant amount of weight could be reduced. It’s brilliant how this allowed the volume to be expanded and raised by five floors, resulting in nearly a doubling of the surface area. (…). The entire building now meets the strict requirements of passive construction.” Ney & Partners were the structural engineers in a team with architects A299 and Daniel Dethier Architectes.
The members of the jury believed that the stacked structure of the Namur Bus Station reclaims space for the city and serves as a gift to the community. They explained: “A new bus station was built on the roof of the existing train station. This stacked sandwich construction was made possible by a highly intelligently designed and detailed lightweight steel structure with exceptional execution quality. This results in a dense and integrated multimodal transport hub making circulation and organization very efficient and functional.” Ney & Partners was responsible for the architectural and structural design. The Steel Awards, organized by Infosteel, honours outstanding projects made entirely of steel, inaugurated between 2021 and 2024.
