The rehabilitation of the ‘Brunfaut’ social housing tower from 1965 by architect Jacques Roggen maintained the existing steel structure, and increased the original volume by offsetting the main facades and adding several new levels. The existing 16-story tower rose to 21-storeys with a new height of 62 m. These modifications provided a greater diversity of housing, a better urban integration and contemporary standards of comfort and safety. In order to minimise intervention on the existing structure and with a limited existing ceiling height, the existing steel deck floor was replaced by CLT panels, a light and compact solution.
