Two Ney & Partners projects nominated in the Steel Prize BELUX 2025, Brussels (BE)

Nominations for the 2024 BELUX steel construction competition were announced at the end of December 2024. The renovation and elevation for the Brunfaut social housing tower was noted for its inventive use of steel. It is natural and easier to make a steel frame for an extension on an existing steel frame. But the lightness and strength of steel were also a motivation to apply it. Moreover, there is immediate and accurately predictable deformation. This is important in this type of delicate, phased operation. A lightweight, high-performance structure reduces the loads to be transferred and the footprint of the transfer.
In the utilitarian buildings category, Ney & Partners’ design for the bus station of Namur was also nominated. For this project, the lightness of the construction was very important. After all, the new infrastructure was placed on top of a 30-year-old existing building. Because of the dimensions of the canopy structure of 80 by 50 m, steel was the only option. The steel columns not only have a structural function, but also hide water drainage pipes and power cables for night lighting and solar panels.
