Spectacular mounting operation of the timber bike and footbridge, Tervuren (BE)

Saturday night 21st of September, the timber bridge was placed on the abutments. This new bridge will allow vulnerable road users to move safely across the ‘Vierarmenkruispunt’. It lies on the route of a cycle highway between Brussels and Tervuren and is part of the transformation of the entire Ring East operation of the Flemish Community to make mobility around the Brussels Ring safer and smoother for all road users and residents of the suburbs.

Ney & Partners was responsible for the design and engineering of the bridge. The timber bridge has a clear width of 6 m and spans 67.5 m, being a long span for this construction material. The structure is mainly realized with LVL panels. The typology is a modern version of a timber truss bridge. An old and proven concept frequently used for timber bridges. A roof as a part of the main structure covers the whole structure to protect the wood against rain and gives the bridge its required structural height. Interior finishings will be realized with local European larch wood.
