Over the past months, Deutsche Bahn and the companies involved in the construction have prepared one of Germany’s largest bridge transport and installation operations. The new steel bridge was fully assembled and welded approximately 500 m from its final location. Measuring 108 m in length, 21 m in width and weighing around 3,700 tonnes, the bridge was be transported to its final position on 30 July using hydraulic heavy-load transporters. The transport and installation are scheduled to be completed during the night of 31 July.

The structure, a design by Ney & Partners, features a clearly legible typology that integrates harmoniously into the urban landscape. An arch-shaped line is subtly incorporated into the lateral surfaces of the stiffening beams via offset web plates, allowing for both structural stiffness and visual continuity. The noise barrier is seamlessly connected, contributing to the bridge’s cohesive design. The materials were carefully selected to reflect Hamburg’s architectural tradition. The steel features Deutsche Bahn’s typical “Eisenglimmer” (iron-mica) finish, which subtly reflects sunlight.
