Opening Park & Ride Building, Antwerp BE

The ‘Park & Ride’ building of Linkeroever is part of a plan of the city of Antwerp to organize mobility between the city and the region more sustainable. The 4 buildings have the same appearance which makes them easily recognizable on the major approach roads to the city. The parking building Linkeroever opened mid-January and can accommodates 1,500 cars. Ney & Partners was in charge for the structural design. The building is an open construction without facades, where the large concrete slab spans are supported by wooden laminated beams. To limit the bearing pressure and structural height of the wooden beams, the slab is monolithically connected to the concrete columns. The combination of both materials is made possible by creating sliding supports between the slabs and the beams to accommodate the expansion differences. (copyright image: Rinkoniën)
