Learning & Innovation Centre opens at VUB and ULB Campus, Brussels (BE)

The Learning & Innovation Centre (LIC) is a new building connecting the French-speaking Brussels University ULB and the Dutch-speaking Brussels University VUB, both located on the same campus. A bridge around the building creates a seamless link between both sides of the campus and equalises the ground level around the building, ensuring the same level between both universities and making a more organic connection. The LIC houses multifunctional spaces that are available to students 24/7 for various purposes. What makes the building truly unique is its commitment to sustainability in multiple aspects. Not only is the LIC energy-neutral, but its internal structure has been designed with flexibility in mind. This allows for easy adaptation of spaces should the function of any room change in the future. It is, for instance, entirely possible to convert office spaces into large halls, ensuring the building’s continued relevance over time. The only part of the building that remains unchanged is the façade, maintaining its timeless design.

Beliris commissioned the Learning & Innovation Centre, made possible by Atelier 229 and EVR Architecten (architectural design), ATS (acoustics), Cosep (safety coordination), FPC Risk part of SWECO (fire safety), Arcadis (special techniques) and contractor Artes.
