End of the restoration works roofs BOZAR, Brussels BE

The first phase of the restoration works of the roofs and exhibition halls of the Centre for Fine Arts, which were damaged by the fire of 18 January 2021, came successfully to an end. The roofs, technical installations, and exhibition halls were completely renovated and are operational again. From 15 September, the retrospectives of Spanish artist Antoni Tàpies will start in the renovated exhibition circuit. Moreover, the restoration works will continue this summer with the second phase: the interior of the Henry Le Boeuf concert hall and the corridors. Ney & Partners was in a team with Barbara Van der Wee Architects, SUM Projects, VK Architects & Engineers who realized this exceptional assignment in a particularly short time span of two years. Ney & Partners’ expertise made it possible to maximize the conservation of the steel structures, despite their deterioration as a result of the fire, through appropriate selective interventions. The structures were recalculated on the basis of the original plans and locally reinforced. The bonded glass-steel interface was successfully tested chemically and structurally.
