The steel structure of the largest hangar for the new fleet of Defence transport aircrafts is finished, Melsbroek (BE)

As part of the BELUX binational agreement, the C-130’s are replaced by the A400M transport aircrafts. Since the existing aircraft hangars are too small for the new transport aircrafts, Defence has opted to build a new maintenance hangar at the military airport in Melsbroek. The new hangar measures approximately 75 m by 185 m and provides an area without internal pillars to free up all the space for aircrafts. It is the largest hangar ever designed and built for the Belgian Ministry of Defense. The construction is carried out by the company Democo, while C-Metal supplied and mounted the steel structure. Ney & Partners optimized the steel structure and provided the execution study for the structure and its connections.
