The new cycling bridge Moervaart successfully installed, Ghent (BE)
-
Recently, the Moervaart cycling bridge was installed over the Moervaart canal, marking an important step towards the completion of the project. The Moervaart Bridge, with three spans, a total length of 120 m and a weight of 210 tonnes, was previously assembled by CSM Steel Structures. It was then lifted in one piece using two cranes and placed onto the abutments and temporary towers. The next steps include installing the struts, removing the temporary towers, and completing the connection to the abutment piles. The Moervaart Bridge will be finished with a comfortable road surface, lighting, drainage, and safe connections to the surrounding roads and cycle paths, making it ready for use by the end of the summer.
The cycling bridge is part of the large-scale infrastructure project R4WO, which aims to improve the accessibility and safety of the R4 ring road and the bicycle highway in and around Ghent. This ambitious project is being carried out by the Bravo4 consortium (BESIX, Stadsbader Group, EPICo, I4B and Rebel) together with Ney & Partners, on behalf of De Werkvennootschap and the Flemish authorities.
