Start construction site bicycle bridge Annie Vande Wielebrug, Ghent (BE)

One hundred metres long, the new bicycle and pedestrian bridge will bring the inhabitants of Ghent safely and above all faster to the Sint-Pieters station. The bridge over the Watersportbaan (Watersportslake) is expected to receive 3,000 passages a day. Excavation work has started now, and will be followed by foundations and road works. In November, the bridge will be floated in its entirety. The steel bridge is slender and has an open structure that creates space and a play of lines. The name Annie Vande Wielebrug is a tribute to the first woman who sailed alone around the world in the 1950s. She grew up and lived in Ghent.
