RITCS School of Arts ‘Kaai’ Campus reopens to students
-
Renovation and new construction works on the campus ‘Kaai’ in Anderlecht, alongside the Brussels canal, are completed. The campus is part of the Erasmushogeschool Brussel and the School of Arts RITCS. Students are welcomed by a new and inspiring campus where parts were renovated and a new construction was added.
The main new building consists of a new acoustically performant theatre and a high-tech film studio. These parts are connected to the renovated school building by an open gallery-foyer. Both main entrances towards the gallery received a light-weight steel canopy, to allow for covered circulation throughout the entire campus. The theatre and film studio are constructed with insulated twin-wall elements, which remained visible on the outside, with a height up to 15 m. The roof consists of precast prestressed TT roof elements with a span up to 18 m. The theatre and studio equipment is suspended between the ribs of the TT elements. The gallery is made with prestressed beams and hollow core slab. The horizontal stability is ensured by two steel bracings and four acoustically decoupled horizontal connections with the main theatre building. ©Stijn Bollaert
