Public opening of ‘Kunsthal BRUSK’ in Bruges (BE)
-
This past weekend, the brand-new Kunsthal BRUSK was festively opened in Bruges with a grand two-day citywide event. This public opening gave visitors their first glimpse of the striking museum building, which marks a new milestone in contemporary museum architecture in Belgium. BRUSK consists of two large exhibition halls measuring 40 x 40 m and 20 x 40 m and a free height up to 13.75m, complemented by studios, an auditorium, and a city café. The building was designed by Robbrecht and Daem architects, in collaboration with Olivier Salens architects. The art hall focuses on new spatial experiences and an immersive art experience, with an emphasis on natural light, generous height, and spatial openness. Its robust and flexible structure with large spans and high load-bearing capacity offers possibilities for a wide range of future uses. The structural design was developed by Ney & Partners. Notable are the steel structure of the roofs of the two exhibition halls, which feature a distinctive hipped form with four pitches, and the hanging roof in between the halls which give the building its iconic silhouette.
The museum will officially open to the public on 8 May 2026, and tickets for the first two exhibitions are already available.Photo © Femke den Hollander
