The Mariëndaal garden city, home to the 46 newly designed dwellings in uniform buildings, is characterised by a public green space and a peaceful suburban atmosphere.
The new homes are spread across two complexes on either side of the site. The first 20 homes, which mark the entrance to the neighbourhood on a steeply sloping site, are spread across three blocks of stacked apartments, ranging from two to five storeys. At the other end of the site, bordering the woodland, the remaining homes are spread across eight two-storey buildings. The homes face in different directions, creating a series of lively intermediate outdoor spaces that encourage a communal way of living. A circular wooden pavilion and three steel bicycle shelters complete the project. The main structure consists of sand-lime brick walls and concrete floor slabs. Given the compact construction, particular attention has been paid to sound insulation.
