The Parkbrug bridge is a gate through which one enters the city. For this reason, we chose to design it as an independent object, with a constantly changing appearance based on the viewer’s direction and standpoint. This offers an extraordinary experience: the surroundings and the light enter the otherwise closed structure through the pattern of openings. The steel box girder spans 67 m with a shape analogous to the typology of a ‘bowstring bridge.’ Forces in the design behave similarly to an arch bridge: the top flange is the arch, the bridge deck the tie, and the side plates the hangers.
