The old museum of Viktor Horta from 1929 will be extended by 6000 m² to meet the contemporary requirements. XDGA proposes to remove the exhibition function from the old museum’s ‘turtle shaped’ floor plan to be used for public functions: hall, ticket sales, shop, cafeteria, workshops, and administration. A new building volume is foreseen in the remaining free space on the plot to which exhibition halls and conservation areas are assigned as programme.
