20.042 | Extension school building ‘De Schatkist’

The project consists of extending an existing school building to offer better learning conditions and more capacity for the steady increase in students. With the addition of new volumes and the disposition around a courtyard, a new spatial experience is created. The added volumes contain a multipurpose hall, multifunctional classrooms, a library and a day care centre. The entire building is erected with mass timber, using a hybrid of timber frame and CLT panels. All timber is kept visible from the inside. Therefore special care went into the connections and fire protection. The visual and tactile qualities of timber were chosen to create a warm and inviting environment for the children of the primary school.
