Motorists and truck drivers are stuck in traffic jams on the A27 between Houten and the Hooipolder interchange almost every day. To improve traffic flow, Rijkswaterstaat is widening and renovating the road. The ALSÉÉN consortium is responsible for the southern part of the project: the 38 km widening of the A27 between Hooipolder and Everdingen. Ney & Partners is responsible for the architectural design of all structures and the structural design of, among other things, the new Merwede Bridge near Gorinchem. The Merwede Bridges, each 910 m long, are due to be replaced in the coming years.
