14.100 | Housing complex ‘Inquiétude’

Six level apartment complex in the center of Namur constructed with massive cross laminated timber panels. Supported on a reinforced concrete basement structure, this six level building is largely constructed with CLT panels (Cross Laminated Timber). The folded front façade is cantilevered and the plates that make up the façade are self-supporting and carry the weight of the floors. This was made possible by designing them as ‘Vierendeel girders’ that combine CLT and steel. For acoustic reasons the building envelope is of double wall construction. The solid wood panels were chosen because of their appearance, speed and ease of erection, reduced loads on the foundations and the optimization of space. Most notably the slender floor construction allowed 6 levels where traditional building methods would have resulted in only 5.
