SN23.185 | Extension S.M.A.K. – Museum of Contemporary Art
-
The S.M.A.K. (Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst) has long needed more space to permanently display works from its own collection. The winning design proposal obtained through the Open Call procedure by the Flemish Government Architect addresses the need for two museum buildings that in the Citadel Park : the S.M.A.K. Hall, where the current museum is housed, and the Collection House, located at the site of the former ‘Casino Head’.
Ney & Partners will be responsible for the complete stability study. Specifically, through a thorough review, the potential of the existing structures will be maximized. Additionally, with a few limited localized interventions, we will expand the usability of the existing structures. Finally, in the design of the new structure, the environmental impact will be minimized by making the correct choice of materials and optimizing material usage.
