17.064 | Cruise Terminal Antwerp
-
The new cruise terminal on the river Scheldt is located in the historic center of Antwerp, close to the castle ‘Het Steen’ and the viewpoint of Noorderterras. Two identical bridges span from the quay towards a landing pontoon, that itself connects to the main pontoon. Both bridges have a length of 70 m, and an inclination that follows the tide. The cross section of the bridges is a 45° inclined square, serving as structure as well as roof cover. The rotation offers both structural advantages and a more open feeling. Openings in the side walls augment this aery sensation of walking down towards the water. One of the landing pontoons supports a windproof steel-and-glass pavilion used for border control.
