14.046.A | Brabantnet Sneltram

Design and calculation of the bridges and tunnels of the ‘Sneltram’-project which consisted of the extension of a tram line from the Heysel in Brussels to Willebroek along the A12 motorway. The design of these different objects framed within an overall vision that was translated into a design toolbox that allows to respond to local specificities in the best possible way and still provide a strong visual identity to the infrastructure project as a whole. Simple typologies were adopted and developed in refined and recognizable solutions. New public spaces were created on, under or next to the bridges for tram stations. Abutments and retaining walls were vertical to maximize these spaces and finished with dark bricks that referred to the urban environment.
