14.046C | Brabantnet – Airport Tram
-
Design and calculation of the bridges and tunnel framing in the ‘Luchthaventram’-project (airport tram) which consists of the extension of a tram line from the NATO-headquarters to the Brussels Airport. ‘Luchthaventram’ is one of the public transport lines of the overall Brabantnet-study, conducted by the consortium Tractebel – Ney & Partners – Bas Smets for the Flemish Region in order to enhance the mobility around Brussels and relieve the saturated R0 Ring Road around Brussels. It consists of the extension of a tramway line doubled with a cycling highway from the NATO-headquarters to the Brussels Airport along a former motorway that is hereby turned into a green city boulevard. Given the high density of infrastructure in this area, the 3,5 km line extension and 5 stations require a big variety of engineering solutions. Ney & Partners is in charge of the design of a bike tunnel, a cycling bridge, three combined tram and cycling bridges, a tram tunnel and the stations.
