Posing of the bridge ‘Jubiläumsbrücke’, Ratingen (DE)

Today, the bridge commemorating Ratingen’s 750th anniversary was installed in its permanent location. Despite the modest dimensions of the bicycle and pedestrian bridge the operation required precision and care. This is because the site of the new footbridge is surrounded by mature trees and a protected medieval city wall that must not be damaged. Following installation, a third phase of concreting of the abutments is planned. In addition, the masonry of the city wall to which the bridge connects is being repaired. This new bridge replaces an old, worn-out footbridge. The Schmees & Lühn workshop in Niederlangen was responsible for manufacturing the bridge. The pattern of the vertical metal sheets on the sides was designed by the Cologne-based artist Thomas Heinz. The bridge designed by Ney & Partners is scheduled to open on 4 September.
