Ney & Partners teaming up with BEEL Architecten for a new office building for imec, Leuven (BE)
-
Imec is a world-leading research and innovation centre focused on nanoelectronics and digital technologies. The new building is strategically located in the green heart of the imec site and prioritizes nature conservation and integration in the landscape. It consists of two stacked volumes on a plinth, housing offices, meeting rooms, labs, and a marketplace offering hybrid work and meeting spaces. The architecture is designed with a compact, open layout that emphasizes connectivity across the site, with room for future expansion.
Ney & Partners oversees the structural design. The building is largely constructed from light, flat wide-slab floors and prefabricated façade columns and beams. At the Steengroevenlaan, a truss structure with a span of 20 m provides free passage under the building. This truss supports the nine floor slabs above and the Skybridge, which connects to the existing building on the other side of Steengroevenlaan.
Partners for this project are Bureau Bouwtechniek; Landscape design: BUUR – Part of Sweco; MEP engineering: Arcadis; Acoustical engineering: Daidalos Peutz; Fire engineering: VK. Copyright photo: Frame + BEEL architecten.
