Ney & Partners in the winning team for Smaakhaven Experience centre, Antwerp (BE)

We are happy to announce that our team, consisting of HUB Architecten, Origin, RCR, Daidalos Peutz and Tractebel has won the competition for the restoration and transition of the historical building ‘Loodswezen’ (Pilotage Service building) into an international culinary research and experience center Smaakhaven.

Positioned in a bend of the river Scheldt, at the northern end of the river quays, the main building of the ‘Loodswezen’ and the adjacent ‘Boeienloods’ (buoy sheds) will play an important role in communicating the culinary qualities of Flanders to a local as well as international audience. The project design is gentle for the existing morphology of the listed building but nevertheless unlocks new and unexpected possibilities for future use. It carefully balances the placid reality of the historical structure with an approach for openness and resilience. Copyright images: filippobolognese
