Luxembourg’s Osaka Pavilion 2025 wins Sustainability Award at BIE Day Prizes (JP)
-
On the eve of the closing day of World Expo 2025 in Osaka, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) held a special ceremony to honor those who made significant contributions to the success of the Expo, held under the theme: “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
Among the honourees was the Luxembourg Pavilion, winner of the Sustainability Award. Designed by Steinmetz-Demeyer and Mikan Architects, the pavilion stood out for its innovative approach to sustainability. The structure – consultancy by Ney & Partners -was conceived using demountable and reusable components: the concrete blocks on which the pavilion was built, the formwork panels that shaped its facade, and the roof membrane along with its supporting structure – all were designed to be repurposed for future use.
This award recognizes the dedication of the entire design and construction team, who placed sustainability, material reuse, and modular design at the heart of their project. We firmly believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility – one that designers and commissioners must embrace every day, regardless of the program or location. Copyright photo: Ondrej Piry.
