Luxembourg Pavilion opens at World Expo 2025 (LUX – JP)
-
Ney & Partners was part of the winning team with SteinmetzDemeyer Architects for the Luxembourg contribution at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. After 11 months of construction, the pavilion is now open to the public. Its design and structure stand out thanks to the innovative tensile membrane roof and its sustainable structure, perfectly aligning with this year’s World Expo theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.
Concrete “Megablocks,” made from residual concrete, support the lightweight steel frames. The structural system combines beams, columns, and cross-bracing with simplified connections for easy disassembly after the expo. The tensile roof, designed through form-finding, faced challenges due to limited space and an irregular shape. A tailored form-finding technique minimizes the use of cables and steel, while aligning with the overall architectural design. The World Expo runs until 13 October 2025 on the artificial island of Yumeshima, near Osaka, Japan. Copyright image: Ondrej Piry – Gie Luxembourg
