First bicycle bridge over the Brussels Ring by Ney & Partners in use, Diegem (BE)
-
Yesterday the very first cycle bridge over the Brussels Ring Road was put into use. The bridge, close to the train station of Diegem, follows the railway line between Leuven and Brussels, connecting the two cities with the ‘F3’ cycle highway. The total project consists of 1,7 km cycle path, a station entrance canopy, multiple access points and 5 bridges, including this new bicycle bridge over the Ring around Brussels. Ney & Partners was responsible for the architectural design.
With the ‘Werken aan de Ring’ (Works on the Ring) the focus of ‘De Werkgemeenschap’ (Commissioner for the Flemisch Community) is on more and better bicycle infrastructure. Safe cycle paths and comfortable cycle bridges and tunnels should make it possible to cycle quickly along and across the Ring. The ambition remains to offer road users a worthy alternative to the car and to reduce the number of cars on the road. (copyright image Bruzz.be)
