Crucial moment for R4WO – bridge Ringvaartbrug installed successfully, Ghent (BE)

Last weekend, the new bridge over the Ringvaart was installed in its final position between Evergem and Ghent. It was an impressive operation involving pontoons, specialized transport equipment, and pinpoint precision. The Ghent-based steelworks Victor Buyck Steel Construction manufactured the various bridge components. Each of these was transported by boat to the riverbank at the construction site for on-site assembly. The operation to move the bridge and place on its final position done by VBSC and Sarens.

The ‘Ringvaartbridge’ has a span of 104 m and offers place to the R4 highway, a wide bicycle lane and two eco corridors. The spherical bearings are now being installed, to afterwards continue with the next major step of the construction: the reinforced concrete deck. The final steps will be the installation of the finishing layers, lighting, signage, road markings, and landscaping. The opening of this bridge is foreseen for this fall.

This large-scale infrastructure project is undertaken by the Bravo4 consortium (BESIX, Stadsbader Group, EPICo, I4B, Rebel) and Ney and Partners, on behalf of De Werkvennootschap – Flemish authorities. Copyright image: Bravo4 consortium
