Construction site of the footbridge in Florenville is speeding up (Florenville) (BE)

Now the more severe winter climate in the Belgian Ardens is coming to an end construction on the Florenville footbridge is speeding up. The pouring of the concrete abutments was finished and the placing of the cables started this week. Completion is foreseen summer 2026.

The Semois river separates the hiking trails located in the Epioux nature reserve, and the left bank (on the Sainte-Cécile side) which is bordered by the GR16. The new footbridge will enhance the existing network of footpaths, thus multiplying the possibilities for walking and mountain biking. The footbridge also makes it possible to create loops, shortcuts and links between the various landscape and fishery sites (Epioux and Conques ponds, etc.) and heritage sights.

The Himalaya-type footbridge is 185.5 m long, with a passage width of 1 m and crossing the Semois around 36 m above the river level. It is made up of 4 locked coil stands supporting steel cradles, on which gratings serve as a walking surface. The footbridge is highly transparent, thanks to the numerous openings in the gratings and in the nets serving as guardrails. Copyright photos: Ney & Partners
