Bridge ‘Piramide Bridge’ Opening Celebration, Evergem – Ghent
-
Last Saturday, the new ‘Piramidebrug’ over the Ringvaart Canal in the Ghent harbour area was opened with a public celebration. The road and bicycle bridge will not open to traffic until next week, but this weekend pedestrians and cyclists were able to enjoy the view of the bridge. The ‘Piramidebrug’ is just one of the many engineering structures forming part of the wider transformation of the area and the large-scale R4WO infrastructure project. The Flemish Community awarded the contract to BRAVO4: a Belgian consortium comprising BESIX Group, Stadsbader, EPICo, I4B – The Belgian Infrastructure Fund and RID PPP (Rebel and abrdn).
This bridge forms part of the redevelopment of 14 junctions and aims to ensure safer and smoother traffic flow on the R4. Ney & Partners is responsible for the architecture and engineering. The ‘Piramidebrug’, situated on the western branch of the R4, forms the gateway to Ghent and is one of the four steel structures being built by Victor Buyck Steel Construction (VBSC).
